Shell Beach
Shell Beach, located in Western Australia’s Shark Bay World Heritage Area, is a striking coastal feature made entirely of billions of small, snow-white Fragum cockle shells rather than sand. The beach stretches for more than 70 kilometres, with shell depths reaching up to 10 metres in some areas. It's clear, hypersaline water makes floating effortless and creates a bright, reflective shoreline. Ningaloo Reef
Ningaloo Reef is a 300-kilometre fringing reef along Western Australia’s coastline, known for its rich marine biodiversity and its unusually close distance to shore. This makes it one of the world’s most accessible major reef systems for snorkelling and diving. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, Ningaloo supports a wide range of species, including whale sharks, humpback whales, manta rays and six different types of sea turtles. The reef’s clear waters and varied habitats create an environment where marine life thrives, offering a unique look at one of Australia’s most important coastal ecosystems.

FAQ

April to October is the sweet spot. You get warm days, clear skies and perfect conditions for Ningaloo Reef, Monkey Mia and national park hikes. Whale sharks show up from March to August, so that’s prime time if you’re keen to swim with the big friendly giants.

Absolutely. The West Coast attracts backpackers, working holiday makers and adventure lovers, so it’s super easy to find your people. Most multi-day trips feel like a road trip with new mates by day two.

Most travellers go for 6 to 10 days. It gives you time to hit the Pinnacles, Kalbarri gorges, Shark Bay, Coral Bay and Ningaloo without rushing every sunset. If you can stretch it, longer is better are we right?

Yes. Ningaloo Reef is one of the world’s best (and most chill) places to do it. Tours run seasonally, usually from March to August, with pro crews who know how to make the whole experience feel effortless and safe.

Light clothes, swimmers, a hat, comfy shoes and a water bottle. Add sunscreen, insect repellent and something warm for those cooler desert nights. If you’re snorkelling Ningaloo, bring your GoPro and your bragging rights.
